Do HW in the listed order!
1) Read sections 28-32 in the Introduction to Pro Caelio titled Life of Caelius and the Pro Caelio. I have not made questions so take detailed notes and know this crucial background information. Also read the Chronological table of Caelius' life (handout on Monday last week).
2) Read/prepare/write translation for Pro Caelio, 1.1 or lines 1 to 18. This will not be easy but use your commentary to get through it. Remember that Cicero is defending Caelius against charges under the lex de vi which allows such a trial to be held on a public holiday/festival because the state has been threatened or treated with violence by the accused. This law goes back to the period of the Gracchi. I will begin assigning grades for in class reading on Monday. Volunteers are always welcome.
3) Old: We will finish discussing questions 37 to 49 on Monday. Read Introduction: Life and Times of Cicero (sections 1 through 19, pages xiv-xxiii) and write out answers to questions 1 to 49. This background information is crucial. Expect this material on quiz/test.

1) Study/Review notes on the chronology of Roman History. Know significant dates.
2) Read and write out a translation for page one of Livy on Tiberius Gracchus down to Attali fuisset divideretur and be able to read/translate orally in class (graded).
3) Compete declension exercises on page 9 of handout and expect a quiz (value 40 points) on the paradigm of declension 1-5 nouns 1-3 adjectives. See Wheelock page 495-7 for morphology of all declensions.
